P.O.V #4- To what extent should individuals and groups in Canada embrace a national identity?6/18/2018 Canada is known as the most multicultural country in the world; and we all take pride in that, as we should. Canada has been multicultural since way back; in 1971 Canada was the first country to adopt multiculturalism as an official government policy, this achievement really makes Canada stand out strong from other countries, this is something I am sure millions of Canadians are proud of and I know I am. All Canadians should all be proud of our multiculturalism, with Canada being so diverse it can feel like and truly be homes to people from anywhere and everywhere, we can give others a sense of peace and hope, many people need a place to go where they wont be judged where they are from or their race and Canada provides that for anyone. I truly believe that everyone should be proud of Canada, I think it's very important that people have a safe place to go where they wont be judged or harassed, and i'm proud that Canada is that place. With all of Canada's accomplishments I believe that this is one that all of Canada should be proud of. Canada has a responsible government; for Canada this means that the government responds to the people rather then colonial governors. Created back in the 1840's this responsible government is the reason our government is like it is today. Responsible government means that a minister of the crown must have the majority of votes in order to govern. I believe that this is a reasonable thing; it's good to have a government that is supposed to and most of the time actually listens to the people of Canada's problems other then their own problems. Having a responsible government gives us Canadians the ability to vote for who we thing will truly help us out, and still continue to hear our problems after the election. To make the people happy then the government has to actually be good and meet our needs and wants, if someone can't so that then we are able to do a "vote of non-confidence"; this is where if enough people lose confidence in the government there can be another election held to see if someone else will get in as the majority. The "vote of non-confidence" is another good reason for Canada to have a responsible government, if we feel as though our needs are not going to be met then we can get someone in who can meet them, and I feel as though that is important. I find that responsible government is truly good for Canada and helps us out a lot. Equalization payment are used to try to balance the financial propensities in all provinces (excluding the territories). Every year when the government gets their taxes and money from the provinces they split it up and give it back; provinces making less pay less and get more back, provinces making more pay more and get less. This year (2018-2019) Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador will not being getting any money back. I have mixed feelings about the equalization payments. The first way i see equalization payments are good; they make sure everything in Canada is equal, that all provinces will always have the money they need and that is good. However sometimes the amount that some of the richer countries have to pay are out of hand and then (just like this year) they don't get anything back unlike other provinces, so they may think it is unfair. I find this idea to be good one due to every province being able to sustain no matter what however it can be a little unfair to some of the provinces.
